The OhioLINK Electronic Reference Books collection contains special-topic reference books – encyclopedias, handbooks, biographical collections, guides – from ABC-CLIO, an educational reference publisher.
You can Search the entire collection of reference books for all occurrences of a particular word or phrase. Or, if you know a specific reference book that you want to consult, use Browse to locate the book by title.
You can search the entire collection of reference books by word or phrase.
- Use the pull-down menu to specify where to search; then enter a single word or phrase in the box.
Full Text: searches words anywhere within the full content of the reference books
Chapter Title: searches words in titles of chapters or sections within the books
Book Title: searches words in book titles
Author: searches words in author names- Two or more words together are automatically searched as a phrase of adjacent words (no need to use quotation marks).
prime interest rate finds the exact phrase prime interest rate
- Every word is searched, including and, or, not.
family and medical leave finds the exact phrase family and medical leave
- Use asterisk at end of word stem to find plural forms and other variations.
myth* finds myth, mythical, mythology, myths, etc.

Search results are grouped by book. You can sort results by author, title, date, or frequency of occurrences of your term.
Results Details: Shows each occurrence found of your term, highlighted within an excerpt of surrounding text. Click chapter or section title to view that portion of the book.
Table of Contents: Displays bibliographic data about the book and its entire list of chapters and sections. Click any chapter or section to go directly there.
From the Table of Contents, use the box Search this Text to submit a search just within this book. The Table of Contents also displays the option to View Entire Text, which allows you to view the entire book as one file in your browser.
Click Add to Bookbag to save a book in a temporary space. From the Bookbag, you can search within the set of books that you have chosen. You can also e-mail, display, or save bibliographic information for books that you have chosen.
Email Contents: e-mail citations of selected books.
Download Contents: display or save citations of selected books.
Empty Contents: empties the bookbag.
