The Ohio State University Libraries aspire to be the leading libraries advancing the educational, research and engagement missions of a national flagship public research university. The University Libraries promote innovative research and creative expression, advance effective teaching, curate and preserve information essential for scholarship and learning at Ohio State, and share knowledge and culture with the people of Ohio, the nation and the world.
OhioLINK sat down with Damon E. Jaggers, the libraries director, to hear more about the numerous ways in which The Ohio State Libraries impact the community all around.
What are your top three points of pride in your library?
- Our first point of pride is the support of university research with our rich, diverse collection and the programs and services offered by our Research Commons, encouraging and facilitating interdisciplinary research. There are so many possibilities with the opportunities our libraries can give, and it is fantastic seeing dreams become realities through them.
- Secondly, our commitment to college affordability, as University Libraries work with partners across campus in the university’s Affordable Learning Exchange to help provide open and affordable course materials. We find it extremely important for students to receive the educations they want, and we try our best to make that happen.
- Lastly, I am proud to say we have 17 libraries around central campus and across the state offering access to highly trained faculty and staff, a deep collection of digital and printed resources and state of the art facilities designed to support individual and collaborative study and research. Each of these libraries offers their own unique atmosphere, and they offer a chance to get the resources and help people need whenever and wherever they may be.
What is the most popular spot in your library for patrons?
The 11th floor Campus Reading Room of the Thompson Library, with its views of the Ohio State campus and downtown Columbus make this floor special and highly sought after by students and faculty alike.
