The Ralph M. Besse Library was named for a benefactor of Ursuline College. Ralph Moore Besse was a trustee and friend of Ursuline College. In 1963 he became involved in the fundraising drive to help build a new campus. In 1968, Mr. Besse joined the Board of Trustees as a charter member. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Besse contributed greatly to higher education. In addition to his service to Ursuline College, he was also a trustee at Heidelberg College and Case Western Reserve University. The Ralph M. Besse Library was opened in Fall of 1985 to honor his legacy.

The mission of Thomas Library is to provide resources and services that meet the information needs of the Wittenberg University community. The Library makes information resources available to support and enhance academic inquiry at Wittenberg and shares these resources with the broader scholarly community as appropriate. Completed in 1973 and dedicated in 1992, the Wright State University Library is named for the Dayton native and famed African-American poet Paul Laurence Dunbar. The Archives and Special Collections Department houses autographed first editions of Dunbar's poetry, an African American Collection, the largest collection of Wright Brothers memorabilia, early aviation history, and children's literature.
