OhioLINK members put the library in their students’ pockets

Jan 7, 2026

OhioLINK, the statewide academic library consortium, and its member libraries have launched an OhioLINK-branded mobile app. The app is free for member institutions and their users as part of the consortium’s recent systems migration to Ex Libris Alma/Primo software.

The native app is designed to meet library users wherever they are with access to the full range of library resources and services. App users can find and access library resources, get guidance from librarians, book library study space, check account details, and receive library notifications. In addition, some campuses are enabling their students to use an in-app library card as a campus ID.

Providing mobile access also will benefit students who only have cell service—not home broadband—an estimated 20% of adults ages 18-29. This allows them to use library resources and expertise without needing to visit a campus library or another place with free broadband, like a public library.

Amy Pawlowski, Executive Director of OhioLINK, views the new mobile technology as another step toward the consortium’s goal of prioritizing users, as outlined in its 2020 whitepaper. She noted, “Launching this new app so soon after our complex statewide systems migration underscores our librarians’ dedication to offering students more options for engaging with their libraries.”

“Our librarians are excited about being able to connect with students and faculty through a mobile device. It’s a major step forward in making library services, resources, and expertise more accessible,” said Yolanda Cooper, Vice Provost and Lindseth Family University Librarian at Case Western Reserve University and chair of OhioLINK’s Library Advisory Council.

OhioLINK member libraries will continue to implement additional user-focused Ex Libris technology throughout 2026 as they launch Leganto, an application that connects library collections with the local campus’ learning management system. With direct access to library-owned materials assigned in their course reading lists, the technology will make it easier for students to stay on top of assignments and save them money by helping them avoid purchasing texts available through their library.
