Eastern Gateway Community College Affordable Learning Initiatives

Eastern Gateway Community College (EGCC) has always pursued affordable learning options for their students. This has been reinforced by EGCC adding OER initiatives as a goal to the strategic plan and the new policy adopted by the Board of Trustees. This policy enforces that OER and library resources are the first option to course materials.

As of Fall 2017, EGCC partnered with BNED to offer 16 Courseware courses to save on textbook cost. As of Spring 2019, this program has grown to over 40 courses, and this partnership has resulted in cost savings in our general education courses, criminal justice, business, education, and paralegal programs. EGCC is committed to the growth of OER development and course adoption. Our academic departments are working closely together to achieve the goal that OER is the first option to course development. The library, the Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Distance Learning departments manage and support faculty in this process.
