Keywords: confidentiality, email lists
There is a general agreement that is not well publicized that we will make every attempt to protect a user's privacy. So, when reporting problems to the PCIRC list, please do not use the user's name. Instead refer to them by their patron barcode. Only use the name as a last resort when you have no other way to identify them.
In private emails between just two parties, you can freely use whatever information is necessary to solve the problem. Here, we are only referring to the very public pcirc list.
This rule maintains a 'sense of privacy' while still allowing problems still to be solved.
