OhioLINK Music Center Updated with 2.0 Release

Jul 13, 2022

As part of a multi-year strategy to modernize its platforms and technology, OhioLINK has released Music Center 2.0. The release adds new search functionality and an improved user experience. Launched in 2009, OhioLINK’s Music Center offers streaming music as part of a core digital library that supports teaching and learning. It includes classical, contemporary jazz, spoken word, and world music recordings from Naxos.

The Music Center release updates the underlying technology and aligns the user interface with other OhioLINK-managed electronic resources such as the Electronic Journal Center (EJC) and Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD) Center. The release includes a new feature that allows users to save frequent searches as a URL.

The Music Center supports IP, off-campus login (SAML, Patron API, etc.), and proxied authentication. While the authentication process will not change for students and faculty, librarians will need to add an EZproxy stanza, which is a file that contains a customized listing of an individual institution's databases to enable access. The updated stanza has been shared with relevant OhioLINK resources team members for implementation.

Over the last two years, OhioLINK has invested in upgrading its legacy platforms to better align with current user expectations and provide more stability and security. OhioLINK also issued a major release for its open-access Electronic Theses and Dissertations Center and partnered with online learning platform TutorOcean to support its eTutoring program and BiblioBoard to manage access to its 180,000 electronic books.
